Dinosaurs Around The World!

I have a two-year-old boy who loves dinosaurs. He has this giant book at home that he reads every day. His favorites are Iguanodon, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex. So I thought taking him to see The Mind Museum‘s traveling exhibition Dinosaurs Around the World would be a special treat for him. We planned to go late in the day so there wouldn’t be a lot of people (and we were right!)

We went last Saturday and found out there were two display areas, the Special Exhibition Hall and Canopy Plaza. We started with the Special Exhibition Hall where most of the animatronics were. There were a lot of moving dinosaurs and they were big! You can hear sound effects of dinosaurs roaring, and this may have played a part in scaring my usually courageous little tyke. He absolutely refused to pose for pictures with his favorite dinos and kept his eyes shut the whole time. So we basically spent less than 15 minutes in the Hall which was a huge disappointment for this dino-loving mama.

Outside in the Canopy Plaza was the hands-on part of the exhibition. There were two huge animatronics featured, Spinosaurus and T-Rex, which tells me the people at the Mind Museum are Jurassic Park fans too. At the outdoor play area, kids can color and draw their own dinos, play with magnets and puzzles featuring dinos, and our personal favorite: dino excavation! I remember being 4 years old and watching the 9-am dinosaur shows on a local channel and wishing I could be part of the excavation team. Well, I had the chance to brush away sand and unearth bones at last! My son, however, loved the sandbox where he can play with dino molds and throw sand around. We spent the rest of our time there until the guards had to kick us out.

All in all, not bad for the price of admission which is P300 per head for access to the Dinosaurs Around the World exhibition only with no access to the museum’s galleries. It consists of a 90-minute dinosaur expedition which includes both the Exhibition Hall and Canopy Plaza. Kids above 2 feet have to pay full price while those below 2 feet are free of charge. But I wouldn’t recommend taking small kids here since it might scare them. I believe the best ages to go are around 4-7 years since I saw kids of that age bracket having the time of their life. The exhibit is open to the public until March 2, 2018. They have 6-time slots daily from Tuesday-Sunday (they close Mondays) which are:

  • 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Head over to the Mind Museum website to check it out yourself and plan a trip for the family. You can also buy tickets online to avoid lines. I’m gonna take my kid back there next year before they pack up for good. It’s truly a treat for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages.
